The CWS flour mill was the first large scale Ferro-concrete building in the UK and was completed in 1891.
In 1925 the mills were able to take cargoes of up to 7,000 tons via a deep water berth. Two powerful electric elevators have a capacity of 75 tons per hour and the Grain Silos could hold 20,000 tons.
The mill operated 24 hours a day and produced 12,000 x 280lb bags of Flour and 600 tons of wheat offal per week.
