A fine old DFDS ship, first saw her 14 July 1960, I am sure that was the day I was at the Gare and ALEXANDRA came in from the east under a cloud of smoke, and the old NORTHUMBRIAN COAST from the south under another cloud .... can't remember which one got in first!

She was the last steamer built directly for D.F.D.S.
In the period 10/1939 to 1/1940 she was one of the 'Maltese Cross Fleet' which was allowed to bring Danish produce to the U.K. without hindrance from Germany, by secret agreement in order to allow imports of fertiliser etc. to support Danish agriculture for the benefit of both warring countries.
