Bloody hell those were the days when Smiths looked busy enough, not like today while someone waits to build more unaffordable houses on the filled in docks!

Hi Ron

Just for your records that is not Impetus on the port side of Beamish, the funnel is wrong and the lifeboats were white as Maximus as they were sisters, The funnel looks like Roughsider but Roughsider only had one lifeboat on the port side.

My best guess is it's Quaysider

Mike,

Thanks. Unfortunately, I can't immediately find the original negative, nor the resultant print, in order to check.
For once, my notebook of the day lets me down! For that photo I recorded it as MAXIMUS and tugs!
My list of sightings shows I noted MAXIMUS and BEAMISH initially, then squeezed in IMPETUS a little later, probably from seeing her from midstream on the return leg of the trip. At that stage I bracketed those three together as being the subject matter of my photo!
I also photographed the SOUTHSIDER which I think is the older tug forward of the MAXIMUS. The only other tug I noted in that vicinity was the APPELSIDER. ROUGHSIDER, BAMBURGH and ALNWICK were also seen, but I think that was a bit later further upriver.
In those days I tried to write down every ship in sight and the QUAYSIDER was not among them, so far as I was aware.
