In the days when you could have and I had a photographic permit that covered the whole dock estate area of Mersey Docks and Harbour Board. I also requested such a permit from the Tyne Improvement Commission and was told that they did not allow photography on their property.

Yes, in 1970 I had the same response from the Tyne. Meanwhile, every other port around the country to whom I also applied issued me with a permit. Later that year I embarked on a nationwide tour taking in Hull, Southampton, Bristol, Cardiff, Swansea, Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow, and Aberdeen .... but not the Tyne.
