France,Fenwicks Beamish,always was and looked a good tug, usualy stuck aft on jobs due to her weight and power.

On the 15th November 1958 the Swiss vessel NYON (4,956/1952) went aground near St Abb's Head. She was attended to by the GEORGE V (2) and the BEAMISH. Stuck fast her bow was cut down to the waterline and after four days of twisting and pulling it parted company with the rest of the vessel on the 27th November. Next day the aft section was taken to Smith's Dock for temporary repairs. Full repairs were carried out in Holland.

Hi Ron

Just for your records that is not Impetus on the port side of Beamish,the funnel is wrong and the lifeboats were white as Maximus as they were sisters, The funnel looks like Roughsider but Roughsider only had one lifeboat on the port side.

My best guess is it's Quaysider

The salvage of the M.V. NYON PIC,S taken from the local paper on the return of the George v to the river tyne after a fortnight away from home. The stern was towed by the tugs Hector of Wijsmuller salvage and George v of Messrs France Fenwick Tyne & Wear the outher two tugs where Simson and Beamish they reached the tyne safely 28th of November 1958. The crew of the George V. my dad is second from left, the skipper of the Beamish at that time was James Stratford. The NYON at smiths dock the stern half after strengthening was towed to Bolnes in Holland where a new section was fitted
