Tyne built. Built by the Gateshead Works in 1889 and withdrawn from Blyth in 1962.

I think it was the similar J26 class that did the freight work round Teesside?

Yes, being on the LNER route, she did do freight around Teesside. I've been a train spotter since I was a kid and I do wish I still had those Ian Allan Train Spotting books!

Of the 201 locomotives of her Class built she is the last remaining example, as far as I know she is currently undergoing restoration at Kirkby Stephen East station
As seen here she languished outside the engine shed on the Tanfield Railway for a while looking every inch a candidate for the scrap yard. Cosmetically restored she looked splendid in NER green livery at Beamish Open Air Museum in 1990
