And a bucket full of elbow grease too
I wouldn't like to guess how much of the old Red Lead the TCC used in its day or the cost of it, it was a matter of "there's a bit of rust there, quick stick some Red Lead on it", preferably on a Saturday or Sunday when it attracted overtime payment as the job was normally Mon to Friday
Down the Engineroom of course with the Tees being the polluted river that it was Condenser cleaning was the overtime payment backstop along with work on the Boilers which required a shutdown. The TCC was a great job with some great characters but not exactly well paid even for the Chief Engineer bearing in mind the cost of the Marine Plant I was looking after and of course the other name for a Boiler is a Bomb if not looked after and monitored correctly by the Chief not forgetting the Fireman (on a Coal Fired job)another underrated job. No Firemen,no Steam, the vessel is not going anywhere.
