Dreicht weather, a far cry from from what has been the norm of late, does nothing to lift the mood on this rather depressing aspect of the harbour. Some sunshine and high water would transform the scene!

Oh you just missed the last collier on the staithes :)
Someone's sure to tell us when that was.
Called at Amble some years ago, town centre seemed very depressing and depressed even on a fine day.

Amble has an excellent Pie Shop!

The Town is Amble, but the port is Warkworth Harbour.

In 1969 RAF Acklington closed-The Railway Station completely closed-Staithes Removed. But there was some good news, Liptons Self Service Stores opened.

The Last Shipment of coal was made on the 25th September 1969. Two ships were loaded on that day, the FERRYHILL and the JONRIX, but as to which one was the last to leave port remains to be seen.

From the 1st July 1909 to the 30th June 1940 10,904,964 Tons of Coal was Shipped from Warkworth Harbour, carried by 9,312 ships.

The record year was from the 1st July 1912 to 30th June 1913 when 629,339 tons were shipped by 621 ships.

Total shipments from 1909 to 1968 were 16,323,794 Tons carried by 17,648 ships.
