Her NEM debut!

MAURETANIA, Cunard SS Co Ltd., 31938gt, completed Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson, Wallsend, 9-1907
BU Rosyth 4.7.35 [Metal Industries]

Photo from TEESSHIPS archives, origin unknown, but contributed by Dave Martin:

This view clearly wrongly titled and captioned as MAURITANIA refitting in 1945 (ship name wrong, date wrong!). Thought to have been taken on the Tyne, but is that correct?
There seems to be a single-funnelled Cunarder inside her. ..... and the ship on the outside?

Yes looks like Wallsend Yard to me.
Looks like Swans East Yard (as it was known) on the far right. Compare twin shed with long name on the front with:
http://www.tynebuiltships.co.uk/Swan-Photos.html
Look at third photo down.

Also see building at far right, on the photo at the top of the list of ships at: http://www.tynebuiltships.co.uk/Swan2.html
Compare this with the building behind MAURETANIA's first funnel.

An interesting postcard from Kevin showing MAURETANIA leaving the river in 1907. Note that the North Pier is still under repair (not completed until 1910).
