Tyne-built and demolished! But frequent trader to the Tees (and elsewhere). My own memories of the ship are fairly limited from seeing her a few times before she was scrapped. One thing I do remember is that she had a lovely wooden front to her bridge. One day, in those days when you could walk along the dockside without safety helmet, etc., etc., and nobody usually took any notice of you, I was watching a sling of steel being loaded into her hold. During the process it clattered into, and dented, that bridge front and I thought "what a shame"! I'm sure that had nothing at all with her demise some little time later.

For some strange reason I don't seem to have posted the series of views of the NORTHUMBRIAN COAST that Albert Weller took in Tees Bay. Time to rectify that omission!

Fine old steamer, Ron, I remember being on the Gare one day when she came up from the south under a fine cloud of smoke. She had a nicely balanced profile, perhaps a little older than you would expect in 1935 and clearly not affected by more modern designs in the Coast Lines group.

I was about to ask, has anyone bought the new book on Tyne-Tees, any comments / reviews? Does it follow 'WSS style' format of a company history and illustrated fleet list?

Its a well written History but not in the WSS Style. Not every ship is illustrated.

I read it from cover to cover!
