Photos of Fishershill taken at Heysham Harbour March 1965. For "proper" tug enthusiasts the other tugs are Fisherstown (1944) and Ramsden. The latter owned by British Transport Docks. One of the previous photos is in the Harbour and the other has the oil jetty that serve the refinery in the background. In those days you could just wander in.

My first visit to Heysham was 25/08/1960, we were holidaying near Penrith and had a day trip to Morecambe, somehow managed to persuade parents to let me loose (age 14) and I took a bus down to Heysham! The two FISHER tugs and RAMSDEN were there that day plus FLYING TYPHOON down from the Clyde, whether a long-stayer or just a caller I don't know.
Also that day DUKE OF ROTHESAY, DUKE OF LANCASTER, LAIRDSBANK, SLIEVE BAWN, CONTAINER ENTERPRISE and POINTSMAN on the oil berth inside the harbour, nothing recorded on the main jetty which I recall was for Shell.
I was also passing through March 1965, University trip to Antrim.

Hi George
On my visit in March 1965 I went on the electric train from Morecambe having gone by train from Bradford.
In the harbour that day were Container Enterprise, Laura Terkol (tanker), Theodora (tanker), Duke of Argyll, Irish Holly(tanker), Sleive League, Larga II(hopper), Hessam (grab Dredger) & Myles Kennedy (bucket dredger). On my photo looking up the harbour you can see the coaling hoists as Sleive League was coal fired.
Tankers on the jetty were usually about 20k dwt.
I think when the refinery closed the tugs went as well.

Regards
Michael

Michael
I was luckier with the tankers on the main jetty in March 1965, HORN CLIPPER on 24th (presumably a Shell charter) and HYDATINA when we got back from Belfast on 28th.
On a recent visit, I could drive down the back of the outer arm of the harbour and a gap between some facilities near the end allows you to get onto the harbour wall and shots of the ro-ro berths and anything on the move if you are lucky!
