Transatlantic/PAL line

Postby Patrick Hill » Tue Jan 28, 2014 6:51 pm

It would appear that we now have just two services into Hull - the ANKE EHLER from Ahus, Szczecin and Hamburg and the ELISABETH from Norkopping.

TRANS FREJ was renamed FREJ on 8th Jan.
TRANS ODIN was renamed ODIN on 17th Jan

And now it looks like leaving the Humber for good. :(

The schedule indicates ELISABETH will make a last call on the 10th followed by ANKE EHLER a day later.

A sad end to the service which I knew well in my brief time at Goole.
The need to move to Hull to escape the draft limits of the Ouse was always clear to me but I dared not suggest it!
But the inevitable happened.
Looks like ABP have covered themselves for what must have been a massive investment in relocating them, the cost of demolishing the silo etc., but an empty or underused terminal presumably on some fallback rent is not a good outcome.

The PAL Line schedules show further visits for ANKE EHLER (13th-14th) and ELISABETH (10th-11th) for discharge only.

It seems that ODIN and FREJ will continue to be regular visitors to Hull. They are now operating for Amsterdam-based Thor Shipping & Transport in cooperation with Sun Lines. A weekly round trip will operate between Antwerp, Velsen, Södertälje, Västerås, Oxelosund and Hull. See http://www.thorshipping.com/schedules/

ODIN left KG for Antwerp at sunset this evening.

That's good news and restores much of the original PAL port coverage. Hope they succeed where others clearly have failed. Competition from the ro-ro's via Gothenburg and overland to eastern/central Sweden is the main issue. It's a long way round for these ships.
