I have found this model which I made over 50 years ago in my loft.

I know that the original had the registration GY 506 not GY 123 as on the model.

My question is why did a British trawler company name one of its vessels after a Province in Afghanistan?

Just curious.

The 'K' series KELLY, KASHMIR, KIPLING, KANDAHAR, KELVIN and KHARTOUM don't seem to have any common thread. Unless perhaps if you leave out KELLY and KELVIN.

Fine model anyway!

A very common thread in fact, the 6 names George listed in previous post are of the 8 grey navy K class destroyers all launched just prior to WW2. Only 2 survived.

Missing 2 names are Kimberley and Kingston, the latter being omitted for obvious reasons.
