Not sure where that came from..... BARFLEUR arrived on the Tyne in the summer of 1910 and did, indeed get stuck between the Swing Bridge Piers. "Extra tug power was hurriedly requisitioned, and soon there were six tugs in front, churning the water with their paddles, straining at their tow ropes, and filling the air with black smoke" Her after deck fittings had to be shorn away to allow her to pass. Because of this and having to break ships up mid-river and 14 miles from the sea, Hughes started to look for alternative sites and Blyth was not secured until the 1st November 1911. The first vessel to be broken up was the SOUTHAMPTON and she arrived in the summer of 1912. The passenger ship MIDNIGHT SUN and the Training ship WELLESLEY followed BARFLEUR in 1913 and 1914, with both yards idle until 1919/20.
