The 'Fairtry's' were a new concept in Freezer Trawlers by Christian Salvesen and were ahead of their time.

FAIRTRY III was built by Simons-Lobnitz Ltd, Renfrew as Yard Number 809 and completed in January 1960.
She was quite big with a gross tonnage of 2,857 and a net tonnage of 1,046.
Dimensions were 275 x 48 x 24 feet.
She had three 5 cyl diesels by Ruston and Hornsby Ltd., Lincoln with a total output of 4,020 bhp coupled to Electric Motors.

At the time Frozen Fish was not popular and Fairtry's I, II and III were laid up at Tonsberg in 1967.
I and II found further work but III was sold for scrap, arriving at Blyth on the 25th July 1970 at just over 10 years old.
