In addition to the 4 Fleet Tenders buit by Gregsons they built some 52`6 steel harbour launches for use in naval dockyards. They were known as the Kiwi class. This one is ashore on Battleship Wharf on 20 August 1971 awaiting shipment.

Very interesting Brian.

Bolckow's had one crane that could lift 30 Tons and two that could lift 15 Tons.

Did Gregsons build in one of the Dry Docks?? Then float them across to Battleship Wharf to be loaded onto another vessel for delivery??
As far as I remember Gregsons just had the three Dry Docks and a bit of High Quay + the land surrounding the docks.
MacGregors had the rest of the Shipyard buildings, whilst the Slipways were being developed for Cargo Handling by the Port.
Paul Hood. + WSS Tyneside Branch Hon Sec.
