Built in 1929 by Cowpen Drydock & Shipbuilding Co., as CORGLEN for Wm. Cory & Sons.
Sold to Michaels Corporation, Liberia, in 1955 renamed MICHAEL A
Transferred to Siconen Shipping S.A., Liberia, in 1961 renamed CAPETAN ANDREAS
Towed to Spanish shipbreakers in 1966 arriving Ferrol 15th March.

Attacked by enemy aircraft off the Tyne in 1941 receiving a direct hit which caused considerable damage.
Chartered by the Admiralty as a store carrier for the Normandy Landings in 1944.
In 1961 she was towed into Cherbourg by HMS Llandaff after developing engine trouble in the English Channel.
On another occasion she radioed for assistance when in difficulties off Grimsby during a gale. Her distress call was answered by Stag Lines ZINNIA and the HUDSON CAPE. The hull tug HERDSMAN eventually towed her to safety.
After her sale to Liberian owners she was still a regular visitor to North East coast ports, bringing iron ore from Spain and returning with coal.
In this picture taken on 2nd April 1963 she is moored off Dunston staiths. She could well have brought iron ore into the Tyne on this visit judging by the staining on her sides.
