HOOD working on Corporation pier, wonder if JOHN JAMES is used by JD to get ships in/out of his drydock?

No Dave, it was a small company, formerly Brown's. YDD was further south on Lime Street and their drydocks were on the west side along Dock Office row.

Amazing looking at the narrowness and twists of the River Hull, to think that we had coasters up at Gilyott's above Clough Road bridge, and of course all those ships coming down from the Beverley shipyard.
