SEALINK agound 02/1990

I was just reminded of 26 Feb 1990, the day when a sudden ferocious storm from the west swept down the Humber around 07.00. The outer gates of KG Dock had been opened to take in the bulker SEALINK (74/18693grt). She broke free and grounded on the wall below the dock entrance, in the meantime the wave action running up the lock had been sufficient to lift the inner gates off their pintles ... leaving the dock open to the river! It was indeed fortunate that the outer gate machinery stood up to the job of closing them against the storm.
