Hull Docks October 1964 Part 1

In the 5o's and 60's my interest were steam locos and railways. I was a member of The Railway Correspondence & Travel Society who organised, among other visits, rail tours and one such tour was to the Hull Docks railway system by diesel unit. We also travelled the branch lines to Hornsea and Withernsea. This visit got me interested in ships even though I am many miles from the sea.

HUNTSMORE: This ship was built at Burntisland being completed in May 1951 as the DERRYMORE, 5678gt, for McCowen & Gross Ltd., London. Within that same year she was renamed HUNTSMORE for the Power Steamship Co. Ltd., with O. Gross & Sons Ltd., as managers (presumably successor to original owners?). She became the AEGIS HOPE, Cyprus flag, in 1968 and arrived at Shanghai in 11.1973 to be broken up.

I saw the HUNTSMORE for myself on the River Tyne on 30.8.1965.

Photo from TEESSHIPS archives, origin unknown, but contributed by Dave Martin; The caption indicates this nice drydock view was taken in Bristol in 1964:
