Hello all,

I'm just new here. I found this forum by Google because I was looking for information about the "Rix Merlin".
It's an old Dutch tanker and she was built as "Artemisium".

http://www.debinnenvaart.nl/schip_detail/1044/

For many years we tought that the barge was wrecked in England (New Holland).
But today we found out that the Rix Merlin was shipped to Africa
When the information from internet is right ofcourse.
Can anyone confirm this? Maybe any pictures from the shipping / transport?

At the Dutch forum we followed tankers who are shipped to Nigeria. There are also a few picked up from England in the past.

http://www.kustvaartforum.com/viewtopic ... 42#p431142

And see this for the wrecking of the "Pera" ex "Rix Merlin" in Liberia.

I hope that anyone have some pictures of the transport etcetera.

Best regards,
Ronald

Hello Ronald, good to hear from you. The photos do seem to be a good match for the RIX MERLIN, but records here simply have her stripped and then sold in July 2003 for breaking at New Holland ... one of our members, Graham, included her in his book about the Rix fleet. But maybe someone will know if her hull was re-sold by the breakers.

Bit of cheating going on that Africa Salvage webpage I'm afraid - the three photos above the text "Various ship wrecks being dismantled at our yard in Buchanan port, Liberia" is in fact New Holland - the small jetty/quay first hinted at it. The distinctive aerial on the ship remains behind the CAT excavator confirmed it as it was the BRUCELLA that went for scrap there.
