From 7Seas website ....

Trans Agila intentionally grounded to avoid sinking after hitting rocks, Sweden
Thursday, November 29, 2012 - 7:02:00 AM

General cargo vessel Trans Agila hit a rock at around 03:05 LT Nov 29 to the north of Kalmar, Sweden, Baltic sea, in a strait between mainland and Oland Island. Vessel got a hole in engine room area with resulting water ingress, it is understood that Trans Agila managed to move some distance to the south and intentionally grounded on a sandbank some 1.3 nm north of Kalmar to avoid sinking. Engine room flooded, there is a fuel leak, of 9 crew 6 evacuated and 3 remain on board salvaging the vessel. Salvage is under way with the whole fleet of tugs, rescue and antipollution boats around. At around 12:00 LT divers were to start surveying the hull, to decide whether vessel can be taken off the sandbank. There are 80 tons of heavy fuel oil and 23 tons of diesel oil on board, and three containers with ammonium nitrate. Map with photos of grounded Trans Agila taken from local media. General cargo vessel Trans Agila IMO 9113707, dwt 4550, capacity 304 TEU, built 1995, flag Antigua, m!

I wonder if that will be the end of her? As they also now include Szczecin in the route to Hull maybe they'll introduce larger tonnage?

Looks more dodgy than grounding off Swinefleet! They were talking about replacing these sisters back in 2001 when I was at Goole, at that time only a beam increase was possible ... now they could go up size but depends on beam/draught for some of the Swedish ports I guess. They still go through the canal over there I think.

During the trip round Goole Docks a chap asked us to take a photo of this ship from St John's, Newfoundland! We then explained!
