Seeing the photo of the KNOLL on page 264 of Ships in Focus RECORD 52 which arrived this morning, reminded me that I had seen this veteran as the RAMSNES.
When I saw this ship in Hull Docks (Alexandra Dock) on 4 July 1967 there was no disguising the fact she was already a veteran of the seas. She had, in fact, already been around for 51 years since completed at Trondheim in 1916 as the FAGER. In 1933 she was renamed AKABAHRA; then MIRVA in 1935; and KNOLL in 1939. She served as such until becoming the RAMSNES in 1961. She lasted another 10 years until she sustained damage by stranding in September 1971, and was broken up the following year - 56 years old. Under the Norwegian flag as the RAMSNES she was owned by J. Hetland & K. Nilsen. She was 1,143 gross tons. (per Miramar: wrecked Drogsholmen 21.9.71 & BU Nieuw Lekkerland 15.3.72 [De Koophandel]) Ron
