60TH ANNIVERSARY SIGHTINGS

Bex Quay - 19 November 2020 (NOBLEMAN outside of ROMAN):

The NOBLEMAN was my last new sighting today and takes the total of merchant ship sightings recorded in my database up to 15144. Over 60 years this is an average of 252 new sightings a year, fairly close to five new sightings each week! If I ever get round to a recount and catch up with sightings that werre not in the registers at the time, and add warships, I would probably manage to reach that nice tidy average of 260 a year. Nowhere near as many as some, but all records updated so far as is possible.

NOBLEMAN at Port Clarence on the Tees 26.11.20

Now in dry-dock on the Tees.

"Tug sucked up submerged debris from the river into her props causing high temps on main engines.
Skilled tug crews handled unavoidable situation - no other boat was involved. hope this clears up any wrong information and states the facts for all."




Debris understood to be four car tyres, but not confirmed, picked up whilst bringing the ASV PIONEER out of Dry Dock. Engines shut down and tug made contact with a Jetty on the opposite side of the river causing damage to facing piles.

Crossply or Radial? A bit of irony there Patrick, Tugs being the biggest user of roped together tyres, I wonder if they were her own that came adrift for such a quick reaction by the Crew? Certainly a case for a proper Fender Band/Rubbing Strake like the Roman has fitted.
