An interesting vessel, still in service so far as I know almost 60 years after being launched on 29.9.1954.
CLEVELAND EXPLORER (8423648), 205gt, completed Hancocks, Pembroke Dock, 1-1956
1956 CLEDDAU QUEEN (Research vessel) - 1985 NORLAND QUEEN - 1986 CALEDONIAN EXPLORER - 1988 converted to fishery support vessel - 1990 converted to offshore support vessel - 1990 CLEVELAND EXPLORER - 1993 MARINE ENDEAVOUR -
2003 TIM TIMONDI (still in service - Nigeria flag).
I saw her in our local waters under the three names: NORLAND QUEEN - CALEDONIAN EXPLORER - CLEVELAND EXPLORER.

Mick,
Your photos reminded me of what she was like as the NORLAND QUEEN and completely rebuilt subsequently.
That triggered a recollection that she had not been built as a Research Vessel as shown in Miramar and, quite quickly, I have found at least one reference, including photos, to her original role as the CLEDDAU QUEEN ..... as a ferry .... and as a paddler!

Two from my archives
Completed in 1956 by Hancock's, Pembroke Dock.
One of the last paddle ferries to be built in the U.K.
In service until replaced by a bridge in 1975

Interesting also that the paddleducks forum states she was converted from paddle to screw in 1964, after only about 8 years in service.

I have a feeling either her (as NORLAND QUEEN) or her Sister was laid-up at Amble (Warkworth Harbour) for a while.......
