The Purfleet was the first to have fully automated Ballast, Cargo handling valve systems, the Control Panel was in its own compartment at Deck Level below the Bridge and the Hornets Nest of pneumatic piping came out under the Catwalk to the various valves.
The Esso Purfleet was built at the same time as the Oil Rig was being constructed by the Furness Yard, I bear in mind when using the word constructed for the Oil Rig the argument that raged when Able obtained the American Vessels for scrapping and what he had permission to scrap and what others felt he had not. :|
