Rake

Rake

New build? Certainly berthed at Stockton on Tees, no idea as to her name and no idea as to her purpose, although I am all for a bit of Rake on Funnel and Mast this looks ridiculous but I suppose it was the fashion at that time.
Any information on this vessel would be appreciated. Thank You.

Very interesting photo, pity no name visible unless that's the small writing forward. Looks like a saloon forward so possibly a ferry for short routes such as Orkney/Shetlands. Needs some thought and research.
Leith, Hull & Hamburg (Currie), Leith is possible as owner but few photos available.

Certainly a bit of updraft with this design of Funnel, I wonder if they used the Evening Gazette propped up by a Shovel to Flash Her up, a very Racy looking thing with the illusion of speed even when stopped.
I have always considered myself lucky to have caught the backend of steam powered Triple Expansions on various Ships, True Craftsmenship and a joy to handle and in the days where we managed to put in Intermediate and Tailshafts without using Lasers with No Alignment Problems at all.

A little clearer version, from Pinterest.
I think a visitor rather than locally built.

That’s certainly a better picture NE and it looks like she may be taking on Coal in her Bunkers judging by the position of the Crane and what looks like Coal Wagons which are at the freight end of the Stockton to Darlington Railway bringing Durham Coal to the World at the Stockton end of this famous Railway where this year it is going to have a large celebration event throughout its length.
Maybe she is as “Day Tripper.” To Scarborough or is connected to the passenger side of the Railway operations.
A trip on a train and then a little Sea Trip.
It looks like those stood on her Deck are keeping out of the way bearing in mind they are positioned behind.the Deck Houses.
Coal Dust gets everywhere.

She was hidden in plain sight, an unusually small vessel from the Craig, Taylor yard for Brazil

Great stuff NE and thanks for that info nothing to do with the Railways, thought there might be some connection with everything going on behind her, still an interesting find, I wonder if she was eventually shipped out in “Bits and Pieces “

I'm sure she would have been delivered complete, under her own power. Much smaller vessels made long delivery voyages by late 1800's, such as tugs to Australia.

Your most probably right NE, not knowing where she was being used I was thinking on the lines in regards to the Coastal size vessel that was built in Scotland?, ran Trials on this side of the “The Pond” and deconstructed into “Bits and Pieces” shipped over there and reconstructed.
