SRIVICHAI (1964)

Postby teesships » Sat Jun 23, 2012 4:28 pm

SRIVICHAI, Thailand, 1511gt, completed 3-1964 by Smith's Docks Co. Ltd., South Bank, Middlesbrough.
BU Bangkok 19.12.99.
The first of four tankers built in 1964 for Thailand, very modernistic looking for their day.

For Thai Petroleum Transports, Bangkok and intended for Thailand Coasting Service and to Singapore.

Twin 6Cy Mirrlees National Engines 1056 bhp.

But not so modern in equipment. Basic fit was an Echo Sounding Device and High Frequency Radio Telephone.

For all that, two of them served out 35 years, and the other two 46 (foundered in 2010) and 47 years respectively. These latter two were sold/renamed only after more than 40 years under their original names. Not bad going, even if engaged only in coastal trading.

Now I find in my archives from over 10 years ago this view of one of the sister ships TRAITREUNG.
Her history, and a somewhat fuller version of the same view is at: http://www.teesbuiltships.co.uk/smiths/ ... ng1964.htm

The view I originally posted was just one of a series of shots taken by Albert Weller in Tees Bay:
