Former Smith’s Dockyard

Former Smith’s Dockyard

Postby Hornbeam » Sat Apr 06, 2024 9:29 am

It was good news week “no one’s dropped a Bomb somewhere” (remember that little ditty)? earlier this week but bad news on Teesside for Ships Spotters, the present owners of Smith’s have decided to pull out and concentrate on their Tyne Base. They are apparently offering jobs to the new jobless if the Teessiders want to travel backwards and forwards on the A19/A1 :x up to the Tyne otherwise the “Pancrack” awaits.
Hopefully the Whitby Shipbuilding Company will find the Yard a useful addition to their Portfolio and step in to save this Historic Yard with a Government Grant of course although something comes to mind that the local Port Authority own the Land or was it Middlesbrough Estates under my old now sadly departed friend Jimmy Southall.o

Yes, Ron, the whole Teesport Commerce Park, basically the original Smith's Dock site, is owned by PD Ports, including the old dry-docks.
