The two gas tankers were built in 1966 at Burntisland to transport liquified ethylene gas from the North Tees site to Rozenburg and were managed by George Gibson and Co., Leith. A small quantity of liquified ethylene was always retained in the tanks in order to start the liquifying process and even on the warmest of days a layer of ice could be seen on deck.
