IZ (5166093), Yugoslavia, 12770gt, built Split 1960. BU Split 22.1.82 [Brodospas].

River Tees (off Eston Jetty), 11 April 1976:

Now then, now then, boys and girls. How do you look up a ship name with only 1 or 2 letters in Equasis when they require the input of three characters??

Were pics taken at the same time?

First one shows her well down by the stern, second on an almost even keel.

Is it a case of "Instant ballasting", a trick of perspective, or proof that the
camera can "lie"!!!

It's the enormous swell we get in the Tees!!!

No, both taken on same occasion, so think it must be trick of perspective (is the slight bow wave confounding our visual sense?)

I sailed her a couple of times in Feb 1976 from North Tees 4
and in Oct 1979 from QE II.

Checking through my records I also piloted a ship called "IZ" to
Tees Dock 5 in Jan 1984. She must have been a fairly big ship
as we used 2 tugs but cannot remember anything about her!!

Tony, bit of a puzzler there over your January 1984 IZ! My tanker IZ was scrapped in 1982 and replaced by another tanker IZ completed July 1984. Miramar lists these two, but no other IZs! (but not to say there wasn't one that they've not picked up on yet).

My computer reads "21st Jan 1984---Iz---- sea to Tees Dock ----,2 tugs."

I will go and dig my "little notebook" out of the loft to check I have not
entered it wrongly on my database.

Watch this space !!!

Tony

p.s. there are pics of the newer tanker "Iz" on Shipsnostalgia gallery.

My apologies.

The entry in by little book reads Glokova I (2) the 2 meaning number of tugs.

In my terrible writing the I and 2 seem llike IZ and obviously have not been too careful
when entering them on the computer ( 5,240 "acts" of pilotage)

Have checked through Lloyds registers and they only show the one IZ (tanker)

Sorry folks!!
