My distant view of the CHANNEL NAVIGATOR (q.v) taken on 19 November 2000 seems to show one of the cranes in the process of being dismantled.

I have since spoken to a friend who worked there who also kindly consulted a former colleague. Both admit that after 25 years or so memory fades and they cannot now recall precise details. However, piecing things together it seems no. 3 uploader was upgraded circa 1994, the work lasting about one year. After that (or perhaps during) no. 1 uploader was moved to the Middlesbrough end of the wharf. Once no. 3 was recommissioned (during 1995?) I suspect no. 1 was never used again, and stood with her loading arm raised until demolition and scrapping started during 2000.

I mentioned earlier my photo of the wharf from November 2000 showing the Middlesbrough-end uploader minus her arm. It was still present and in the uplifted position certainly in 1998. My various photos of that location on NEM from 1998 show just the two uploaders being used.

Don't think we'll get things much more complete that this.

Thanks for your efforts, Ron, will pass that on to my brother (who is confined to barracks by Queen Nicola I of Scotland).
