LAIRDSFIELD - lost in 1970

Postby northeast » Sat Jan 18, 2020 4:29 pm

My brother who was on the Teesmouth lifeboat at the time reminds me that we are coming up to the 50th Anniversary of her sad loss off the Tees on 6 February 1970.
He has heard that there may be some memorial service planned, maybe mentioned in the Gazette?
If anyone has info can they share it here please?

See: http://www.voiceofthenorth.net/fifty-ye ... ar-granda/
for details of service at the anchor at 1.00pm on 6 February.

Co-incidentally, my sister lives in Crookham and was speaking to the lady in this article. I have sent my sister some TEES PACKET articles about the disaster to pass on to her. As these are the first NEM mentions of the LAIRDSFIELD, will also post them here in a short while.

First-hand account of the loss of the LAIRDSFIELD written shortly after the tragedy by Ray Counter, the then editor of TEES PACKET. This turned out to be the last issue he produced at that time, and we then had a gap in publication of several years until TP resumed and evolved into the present quarterly format.

Many thanks for posting the link to the Clarion, Ron.
I think my brother will come down for the service ... he says there's only a few of the Tees Lifeboat crew left who were there that day.

I am just trying to contact The Scotsman to prompt them to write about it and maybe descendants of some of the 6 Scots lost may wish to attend the memorial.
