I was ordered to sail this ship from ROT on the morning of 8th. Jan 1976.
When I arrived at the ship I was told it had engine trouble and the engine would not start. A very worried Marine Superintendent said "We have just arranged to have it moved to the new Potash Terminal for engine repairs which then was not open!! For God's sake do not do any damage to the terminal as the condition that we can go there is to indemnify them for a "lot of millions of pounds" for any damage."
We then set off with 4 tugs and actually used a fifth one which was available to push her up to the berth. No engines.
No damage, one very relieved superintendent and Pilot!!
Certainly for many years this was the biggest ship to enter Tees Dock but no doubt that record will have been beaten now.
