The only two trawlers I saw being broken up on the Tees were:
GLENISLA (5132016), 279gt, completed John Lewis, Aberdeen, 1959
First seen on 30 August 1977 then a better view on 4 September 1977:
The same dates also applied for:
STRATHDON, 275gt, completed John Lewis, Aberdeen, 1958
The only other occasion I recall a trawler under tow was the rather strange case of the ARCTIC EXPLORER.
As I previously recorded on TEESSHIPS:
The veteran GEORGE V (217/15) tows the ARCTIC EXPLORER (273/57, ex Barbara Paton-72) out of the Tees on 15 July 1978. The trawler sank in port in February 1979 but I know not why the reason she had been on the Tees. There was a spell when a local shipyard did break up trawlers so whether scrapping here had originally been envisaged but then something changed......? According to my database the ARCTIC EXPLORER did end her days during 1979, although I do not have any details to hand.
George, BTW, have you a handy reference list of ships broken up on the Tees?
