TEES DOCK - Early sightings

Postby teesships » Wed Sep 12, 2012 11:32 am

Albert Weller took these photos of two ships which I have not identified berthed in Tees Dock. I think these would be taken soon after the dock became operational during 1962.

I'll go for MALAKAND (1942) plus either MEDIC or MEGANTIC of 1962/63.

Looking at this one again its not the same ship as in Ron's Linked Post.

Its not easy to see the detail but this does look like the MALAKAND. If George is also right with his second choice this would cancel out the chance of it being the MATHERAN as she was scrapped in 1963.

Any thought's Tony??

Main obvious difference between them is Malakand had
"Wind out" davits and Maltheran had old radial davits.

Close up of this pic shows her not to have radial ones
so it is Malakand.

Albert Weller's slide confirms it was the MEDIC in Tees Dock (name can be read on side of bridge on slide):

This would most likely be between 23rd and 27th of July 1963.
MALAKAND moved down from Smith's Dock to No. 3 berth on 16th July and left on the 27th.
MEDIC arrived on No. 4 berth on 23rd and left on 26th or 27th.
