This means she should be:
LASS O'DOUNE (9187203), 150gt, completed Irnsum 6-1998
Her history per Miramar: 1998 AALTJE VISSER - 2009 SASHA EMIEL - 2015 LASS O'DOUNE

However, I am not convinced this is the full story!
At Esbjerg on 10 October 2011 I saw a trawler bearing the name JUPITER and fishing no. LT-34.
From what I could find on the internet subsequently she is this same vessel, and comparison of photos seems to confirm this.
Does anyone else have more specific information, please?

I've just done a search on the Trawler Photos site to see if there's anything on there.

There is a photograph of LT34 which does look the same:

..and a reference to LASS O'DOUNE which sunk off Shoreham in 1946 on her way to LT.

Well Stan & Ron, if i may, i'd like to join this uncertainty.

Sasha Emiel was renamed Lass O Doune when acquired by MacDuff Fisheries of Peterhead, and appears to retain her BM 181 registry.

I was in Brixham last Monday 20th March 2017 and was fortunate to be given access to the fishing fleet berths, the area where us riff-raff don't usually get to. Daylight was fading, so i was snapping away and had noted a reasonable sized trawler berthed 3rd out whose hull was painted grey above a very dodgy waterline, but not her final paint job.
On closer inspection i have noticed her name is SAM OF LADRAM, BM 181, on both sides of the bow, whilst on her stern is SAM OF LADRAM, BRIXHAM.
This is all in raised welded letters and numerals, pretty permanent by my reckoning.
If appears she will be a "new addition" to the Waterdance fleet. Wonder what she had been previously.

So, has BM 181 been reallocated, in which case Lass O Doune has a new number.

Sean,

Thanks for alerting us to this one!

First, it seems the current LASS O'DOUNE is currently fishing off Aberdeen.

No trace initially of your SAM OF LADLAM but the current AIS for Torbay produces a SAM OF LADRAM, built 2003.
Elsewhere I have found reference to her being ex LLOYD TYLER and her fishing number being BM188.
So just wonder if this was the trawler you saw? Can't initially find any fuller details.

It was after that I began to doubt myself when I noted AIS show her as being a 29998gt Chemical/Oil Tanker!!
Except in their header they show Mfv Sam of Ladram ... so I do think you saw her as a trawler!!!!!

Found a bit more about the LLOYD TYLER at:
https://www.greendalefarmshop.co.uk/abo ... oyd-tyler/

Also some reference to a 1970 built LLOYD TYLER, originally MARIA (7016656), and one of her former names also happened to have been SASHA EMIEL! (from 1988 to 2000)

I do assume these are two completely different vessels????

Sean (E28) has sent me his photo showing the "new" SAM OF LADRAM clearly bearing the fishing number BM181. An edited, reduced size, image is here:
sam of ladram.JPG

So now we just need to know the "new" fishing number for the LASS O DOUNE.

Thanks Ron, hope the number is sufficiently legible, once enlarged.

Under whose jurisdiction does the allocation of registry numbers fall.
Patently, numbers are re used, some rapidly, others remain dormant for many years before another boat is allocated a defunct one.
In those circumstances, why might a particular number be used, can the new owner or skipper decide from those available.

Brixhams BM was not one of the original registry numbers, when the system was conceived back in the 19th Century.
Those based at Brixham were allocated Dartmouth registry numbers, only in the early 20th Century did Brixham divorce itself from Dartmouth with the rapid expansion of boats based there.
Thats all folks. Sean.

Sam Of Ladram is now at sea functioning as a beam trawler.
She is the ex Lloyd Taylor and retains her number BM188, and not the BM181 clearly displayed in the previously attached image, which i took in Brixham harbour Mon 20th March 2017.
She is now resplendent with navy blue hull, white lengthways line down the centre and white upperworks having just been refitted in Holland at the LUYT yard, Den Over, at approx £900,000.
That should leave BM181 unmolested.
Thats all folks. Sean.

Just to say that she is currently showing in Equasis .... and they list one of her former names as JUPITER from 2009!
So it appears their records have now caught up with reality!
