The coaster DOUWENT pictured being towed into the Tyne on the evening of 02/04/2011. The Douwent left Blyth in the morning heading south, at around 08.00am off Sunderland she reported losing her engine and dropped her anchor. Svitzer Lyndhurst was sent from the Tyne to tow her into the Tyne. Yarm Cross assisted to berth Douwent at Northumbrian Quay, North Shields.

Another splendid picture, but how can you lose an engine on a ship, its a great big metal thing attatched to a wirley thing at the bum end and enclosed in a steel box.

Sorry Dave could not resist that!

Ah but its probably down those steep stairs and behind that big heavy steel door. All dicky dark down there and a hot nasty oily smelly place. Best to stay upstairs on the bridge and just press the buttons, turn the wheely thing every now and again, keep the whites nice and clean and just wave at all the nice girls on the beach.

Mmmmmmmmmm Probably why the wick in the Engine went out.

Now if it had been a good old British Steam Engine running on Northumberland's Best with PROPER Ingineer's it would never have stopped. Well not till they hit something..... :o
