The Harbour was there first and has always been known as Warkworth Harbour. Amble is the Town.

This card shows HOLDERNAZE (1949-1957) alongside.
Does anyone know the role of the rather low hopper which feeds into an even lower pit, from a ramp definitely not built by Hadrian?
Also what could be the yellow stacked material?

Looking at another version of the same Post Card, a Cement Mixer and the pile is sand.

AMBLE HOPPER.jpg
Not easy to see on this picture, but its a Hopper for dropping Grain onto an inclined conveyor to load into a ships hold. The conveyor has been left out of the original picture. Could also have been to load any other material. At the time it was the only bit of the quay where you could bring in a lorry. The upstream quay was where the coal staiths were.
