Baltic timber being discharged from MONARDA during July 1968.
Built as HERA in 1935 by Oresundsvarvet A/B. Landskrona, for Trans Marin A/B, Helsingborg. 1524grt Steam machinery
Sold to Arnold De Champs of Stockholm in 1959 renamed MONARDA
Bought by Stena A/B, Gothenburg, in 1971 and cut down to deck level. She was then registered as a barge and given the name STENA METALLICA
After two more name changes (VAASA 1 in 1974 then RICE 4 in 1977) she was finally demolished in 1985

The ships owned by the Monark Line (Arnold De Champs) visited east coast ports quite regularly bringing timber and general merchandise. I have seen their vessels loading an outward cargo at Dunston coal staiths on more than one occasion
The attached detail pictures taken at the quayside in 1963 are of another of the lines vessels, MONARK (1950) showing her distinctive close-set king posts and lookalike Alfred Holt funnel

Great set of pictures.
In addition both vessels could carry 2 Passengers.

The MONARDA had a conventional Triple Expansion Engine by her builder, Nya Varus A/B, Oresund rated at 860 ihp whilst the MONARK had Twin 2 Cly Compound Engines and a Low Pressure Turbine by Ottensener Eisenwerk of Hamburg rated at 1200 ihp.
