Shipping of Sunderland and the Wear

NEVASA

Postby HSA31 » Thu May 24, 2012 8:56 am

The British India Line's NEVASA sails from Sunderland in 1972 during her days as an educational cruise ship. The ship was built in 1956 on the Clyde when the Company won a 15 year Government contract for trooping duties. In 1962 it was announced that all troop movements would be by air and so the NEVASA was laid up. In 1965 she returned to service as an educational school ship until being sold to ship breakers in 1975. Her demise being brought on by the ever increasing cost of fuel oil.
