RFA BELGOL bombed 1943

In 1943 RFA Belgol had the misfortune to be bombed whilst in the docks at Sunderland.

Not once, but twice.

First occured on the 29th April.
Can anyone confirm where she was on this date, why and extent of damage.
It may not have been serious, but did it prevent her from sailing, as, on the

24th May Belgol suffered much more serious damage.
She took at least one direct hit midships causing extensive fires and damage. No casualties.
She did not return to service until that October.
Apparently, one other ship was damaged in the same locality, with a third ship / boat sunk.

During this 24th May bombing-
1- exactly where was she when hit and was she still being repaired from 29th April damage.
2 - exactly where was she moved to immediately after. Presumably with assistance if afloat.
3 - exactly where was she repaired

Any and all help gratefully received.

This is the raid on the 23/24th but unfortunatly no mention of the BELGOL, or the earlier raid.

I can help you with the second bombing -

24 May 1943 hit by German bombs while at Sunderland. All midships accommodation gutted and no: 4 tank pierced. Chief Engineer and two other crew members injured and hospitalised.

I am putting this info here in the Belgol thread as the historical RFA site has now moved to...

https://historicalrfa.uk/

We all owe Chris White a huge debt for his past commitment to all that this new site has inherited from his many years endeavours.
