Port cements development plans

A North East port has cemented its development plans with an onsite expansion to create additional storage space.

Bosses at Port of Sunderland gave the green light to lay extra hard standing across the newly named Endurance Park, formerly the Fina Yard, in a move that will extend its onsite offering to potential clients.

The enhanced storage area has been reconfigured to allow direct access to Corporation Quay, the port's main waterborne access point.

Port director Matthew Hunt said: "We've extended the usable ground-space to act as additional onsite storage for potential new customers, as we look to grow our reputation as an accommodating and efficient base in the North East.

"Additional space is a sought after feature for any burgeoning port and we're delighted we have the onsite capability to extend our storage facilities.

"The extra space will also allow large structures and project cargos that were once not able to pass through to Corporation Quay, via the port's road system, to pass more freely through the port."

Councillor Paul Watson, leader of Sunderland City Council and chairman of the Port of Sunderland board, added: "The reconfiguration work is part of a line-up of developments taking place at the Port of Sunderland, helping to position it as an appealing base for potential clients."
