BHC Waterboat

BHC Waterboat

The BHC WATERBOAT, as mentioned by Paul she was built at Bill Quay on the Tyne in 1922. As far as I am aware Wood Skinner were the only builder active at Bill Quay at that time, but this vessel and the BHC HIGH FERRY NO 2 do not appear on the WSS Yard List

Just thinking about this some more. Built at Bill Quay (?), could of course been Harrisons who did build boats (ships?), but I've never seen a list of vessels that they built.

Mmmm

Yes, that's the frustrating thing about the Mercantile Navy List, it gives you the Where BUT not the Who By..........

Harrisons are credited with building a number of "Modest Sized Vessel's". There was also the firm of J & D Morris (Ceased 1928) but they were classed as operating from Pelaw Main.

Worth a bit more digging.

Mr. Whickham sir
Under Harrison you have FERNSIDE yn1 but there was also MOORSIDE a sister yn2 which became 26 PEGRIX, 36 BEN ELLAN, broken up 07/1961.
One to add to the list.
These are the only two I have found for them.

OK I give in, cannot find any more ships built by Harrison, except perhaps the two for Blyth.

There is a Build List on the Web for William Boutland who had the Yard before Harrison, but they appear to be Sailing Ships.

"Owl" (Harry Potter.) has got delayed after asking for additional information.

Fernside and Moorside do appear to be true sisters. Only diff I can see is that MOORSIDE was 270 Gross, (Fern 269) and 99 Net (Fern 98). Under Deck was the same.
Diff. Owners, although its only in word...... Fernside was T ROSE and Moorside was Wear Steam Shipping Co (1917) Ltd. (T Rose Mgr)

However I have found three wooden workboats belonging to Blyth Shipyard, two of them built at Blyth. The grandly named

"BLYTH SHIPBUILDING & DRY DOCKS Co. LIMITED NO 3" 4 and 5.

No 3 was built in 1916 at Cockenzie, whilst No 4 and No 5 were3 built at Blyth in 1913 and 1921.

Assume there was also a No 1 and No 2 but they do not appear to have been registered.
