Although built at Thompsons who took over Crowns in 1949, and whose last ship, Bretwalda was yard number 240 in 1959, this was originally a John Crown Contract (no 243), as were its sisters, 241 Silverdene ; 242, Silverfell; 245 Silverwier. All had Doxford 670LBD4 engines.
