Both for Pacific Bulk Carriers (Standard Charter Bank), both 47,000 dwt bulk carriers.
Similar ships by the Doxford Group:
Fernriver, Fernspring, Sheaf Tyne, August Pacific, Amber Pacific, Argonaut. G.M. Livanos (J.L.Thompson)
Roslagen, Mylla, Orotava (Sir James Laing)
All of these were Doxford 760J6, 13,300 BHP engines with the exception of Roslagen and it had a Gotaverken engine

Austin and Pickersgills built two similar ships about the same time, Happy Dragon and Sygna. These were built in two halves because they were too big to go around the bend in the River Wear at Deptford (Laings yard) and were joined in drydock on the Tyne. Sygna was wrecked off Australia and its hull was left where it foundered for a few (perhaps many) years. It would be likely that Pickersgills ships would be Sulzer engines and just as likely that they would be built at George Clarks. Both of the firms were at Southwick, one each side of the Alexander Bridge

HAPPY DRAGON.
Launched 31st October 1966. Completed March 1967.
and
SYGNA.
Launced 25th July 1967. Completed November 1967.

Both had 7cy, 16,100 bhp B&W's by Harland & Wolff Ltd, Belfast.

AUGUST PACIFIC.
Launched 9th March 1969, completion July 1969.
AMBER PACIFIC.
Launched 16th July 1969, completion November 1969.

AUGUST PACIFIC on the Tyne on 20 July 1969.
Her building had just completed that month at Sunderland.

Thanks for corrections Paul.
I started work in 1966 at Thompsons and between Fernriver and Amber Pacific (1966 to 1969) there was a procession twelve very similar bulk carriers from A&P, JLT and Laings (12 ships, of which, 7 were for Scandinavian owners). I see that the aft end of Happy Dragon was launched 31.10.66, the fore end on 07.02.67; Sygna was 25.07.67, aft end and 19.10.67, fore end. My engine lists are out on loan at present so the incorrect guess that these two were Sulzer engined was a surprise and I'm pleased to be corrected because I had always thought these would be Clark Sulzers. Happy Dragon seemed an unusual name for a new Scandinavian ship. I usually associate a name like that with a third change of owner, Chinese, or a single voyage name to the breakers. Sygna broke in two off Australia and looking at the photo "Sygna" in the A&P section of this forum you will see that the break, (coincidentally because of how and on what the ship came to rest), was almost exactly at the join of the two halves.
