Assume this is 1926 built one as the 1904 one, built by Thompson's as FARRINGFORD, (Became SILVERASH 1912) was sunk in October 1915.
And it looks like a trials Photograph.

SILVERASH.

Built by J L Thompson, North Sands as Yard Number 555 in 1926.

5,299 Gross.
Became TJISONDARI in 1955 and was broken up in Hong Kong arriving 2nd July 1957.

Very accurate assumption. ;) Thompsons built two Farringfords one in 1896,(yn 342),and the other as you say, (yn 418). The ship here was one of four built in succession at Thompsons for their "Uncle Stanley and John"
554 Silveray; 555 Silverash, one record has it as 'Silver Rash;" 556 Silverbelle; 557 Silverhazel. Ash, Belle, Hazel are obvious but what was "ay"? or was it meant to be Silverray? :?
Silverash had a Doxford 680L4 engine, number 157

L.S.
Some years ago I got some more information from a Radio Officer

<quote>Hello Alfons,
I joined Silverash April 1955 in Rio de Janeiro (Her R.O. was sick) when she was on charter to Royal Interocean Lines.
We were the sub-chartered to U.S. Government to take full cargo of sugar to Pusan from Dominican Republic.
We picked up 17 survivors from U.S. ship Romana (Costa Rican registered) which sank off Brazilian coast.
The run from Panama to Pusan was about 9,500 nautical miles and the engine never stopped once.

Her average speed was 13.5 knots, there was never any trouble with the Doxford.
(Have you noticed : With an Old Timer, never problems ALFONS)

She was refitted after the war and was very comfortable and a "happy" ship
When we had discharged the sugar in Pusan we sailed to Yokohama when she was sold to Royal Interocean and her named changed to Tjisondari.

The colour picture of Silverash was hand painted by the chinese clerk who worked for the Royal Interocean "super-cargo" we had on board, he was a chief officer in RIL.

Best wishes. John P (TABNAB)
