I remember when Sheaf Mount returned to Thompsons for conversion. The engine room was astounding, engine room floorplates all immaculate red paint, every visible brass and copper pipe highly polished, engine room spotlessly cleaned. It was a long time ago so my memory may not be reliable but i seem to remember that someone said the engine room labourers on the ship were Chinese.
I was given the job of splitting 16 x 3/4" nuts on a flange under the floor plates that were totally corroded, with a hammer and chisel.
Happy days ........ really
