ANDWI (2). John Crown Yard number 237. Fore end launched January 1954. Aft end launched June 1954. Two halves joined at Greenwells. Owners Rolf Wigand, Bergen. With a 720 bore, 9 cylinder Sulzer engine built in France. Broken up Bilbao 1978 after being declared CTL.
Tug is "Roker".
Andwi (1), a cargo ship for the same owner was also built at Crowns, Yard number 220, in 1947
Dickenson's Engine works roof can be seen above the after part of the ship, behind the accommodation. Later Doxfords took over the works where the prototype, Doxford, single cylinder P type engine that was subsequently sent to South Shields Marine & Tech. was built and is now at the Hanson Museum in Cheshire, hoping for resources to rebuild it. After Doxfords finished with the works it was incorporated into J.L. Thompsons yard and became a platers shed as well as a storage place for two spare crankshafts for RFA ships with Doxford engines, and a plumbers module shop. Funnels for most, if not all of the Doxford group ships were built in or outside of the shed.
