ESKBRIDGE

A friend of mine was going through some old documents recently and he sent me this.

It relates to my father who served on this vessel.

I did know he was second engineer on the SS Danby (built by Ropner) see: viewtopic.php?f=37&t=842&p=1826&hilit=danby#p1826

However I was unaware he served on Eskbridge until I received the above document.

I have since searched for images of the ship and came across this: http://uboat.net/allies/merchants/ships/488.html

What!? Look for something in my archives?????

Thankfully, my full collection of Tees Packets is one of the things I keep reasonably tidy and in order.
Will have a look when I've time.

It was a company history and fleet list for the North of England Steamship Co. Ltd., by Harry Appleyard. They were managed from 1903 by Crosby, Magee of West Hartlepool who had their own fleet but in due course registered new ships in the NofE name. So ESKBRIDGE is mentioned just as part of this article.

Sold to Greeks as THEODOROS T in 1934.
Torpedoed by U.37 on 27/08/1940 in 50.10N - 19.50W, Rosario via Gibraltar for Cardiff with maize.
